Oba of Benin Declares Two-Week Fasting and Prayer for Edo

The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has directed all indigenes and residents of Edo State to observe a two-week fasting and prayer session for peace, protection, and prosperity in the land.
In a statement released on Monday by the Obamedo of Benin, Efosa Igbinomwanhia, the monarch announced that the spiritual exercise will run from September 15 to September 28, 2025.
According to the statement, the period of fasting, which runs daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., is in keeping with long-standing tradition ahead of the annual new yam festival. It is also aimed at seeking divine blessings, protection from sudden death, and ensuring peace and tranquillity for families, the state, and the nation.
“All Benin sons and daughters at home and abroad, as well as non-indigenes living in Edo, are enjoined to participate in the fasting and prayer,” the statement read.
