Borno Attack: Tinubu Orders Armed Forces to Review Counter-Terrorism Operations

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Nigerian Armed Forces to reassess ongoing security operations and intensify efforts against terrorist groups across the country. The directive includes the deployment of advanced military hardware and surveillance equipment aimed at eliminating insurgents.

 

Vice President Kashim Shettima, in a statement by his spokesman Stanley Nkwocha, conveyed the president’s orders while extending condolences to the government and people of Borno State over Friday’s deadly attack in Darajamal community, Bama Local Government Area. The incident claimed several lives, including those of soldiers and civilians.

 

Shettima, who described the attack as a tragic loss to both the state and the nation, said:

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots. These deaths have left the nation in grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families.”

The Vice President reaffirmed confidence in the military’s ability to defeat the insurgents, noting President Tinubu’s recent approval for the procurement of additional drones and the review of operational strategies by all security agencies.

He also highlighted the federal government’s consideration of state police, stressing President Tinubu’s belief that certain security challenges require specialized local units familiar with the terrain, culture, and communities.

 

While offering prayers for the victims, Shettima assured that the federal government would continue to support both the Borno State government and affected families in tackling insecurity.
