Atiku Declares Intention to Run in 2027 Presidential Election

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has confirmed his intention to run for president in 2027, dismissing speculations that he might not take part in the next election.
The clarification came through his long-time associate and 2023 campaign spokesperson, Tunde Olusunle, in an interview with ThisDay on Sunday night.
Atiku’s declaration follows reports suggesting he could abandon his presidential ambition after Prof. Ola Olateju of Achievers University implied that Atiku was more concerned about Nigeria’s progress than pursuing the presidency. Reacting from his holiday home in the UAE, Atiku rejected the statement, stressing it was unauthorised.
“When people represent me at events, my position on issues is usually previewed with them. In this case, there was no consultation. Prof. Olateju was not speaking for me,” he said.
The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate assured supporters that his coalition would spring surprises in 2027 despite attempts by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine it.
He criticised what he described as unprecedented corruption under the current administration, calling for urgent efforts to rescue Nigeria. According to Olusunle, who conferred with him, Atiku vowed to mobilise Nigerians to challenge the status quo in 2027.

“The deceit, erosion of values, large-scale theft, and lack of accountability should trouble every patriot. I will be offering myself to lead the reclamation and rebuilding of our distressed nation,” Atiku was quoted as saying.
