Amaechi Denies Election Rigging Allegations, Vows to End Malpractice if Elected

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he has never been involved in election rigging.

Speaking on Saturday during a discussion on X Spaces, the former Rivers State governor challenged anyone, living or dead, to present proof linking him to electoral malpractice.

“I challenge any politician, living or dead, to come forward and say I was part of rigging,” Amaechi said, alleging that such malpractice is often orchestrated by state governors through the diversion of public funds via government agencies.

He vowed never to take part in rigging and pledged to prioritise ending electoral fraud if elected president in 2027.

“I will never participate in any rigging whatsoever. What I promise to do now, going forward, is to stop rigging,” he stated.

Amaechi further said he would only apologise if concrete evidence proved he had engaged in wrongdoing.

“I challenge any Nigerian to produce evidence that I participated in any election rigging, and I will apologise for that,” he added.

On July 3, Amaechi announced his readiness to run for president under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and serve only one term if elected, to uphold the unwritten rotational agreement between the North and South.

“For now, the way Nigeria is, you must keep to that unwritten agreement that says south eight years, north eight years,” he said.
