2025 WASSCE: WAEC Detects Technical Glitches in Released Results, Urges Candidates to Recheck

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has advised all candidates who sat for the 2025 school-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to revisit its official portal and recheck their results within the next 24 hours.
The directive was issued in a statement on Thursday by the Council’s spokesperson, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina.
Earlier on Monday, WAEC had announced the release of the results, revealing that only 38.32% of the 1,969,313 candidates obtained credit passes and above in at least five core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics — a significant drop from last year’s 72.12% pass rate. The sharp decline has since sparked public concern and criticism, with many questioning the integrity of the examination process.
In its latest update, WAEC disclosed that technical anomalies were uncovered during an internal review of the released results, prompting the temporary suspension of access to the result-checking portal.
“WAEC sincerely regrets to inform the public of certain technical issues identified during our internal audit of the recently released 2025 WASSCE for School Candidates,” the statement read.
The Council explained that the irregularities arose following the deployment of a new innovation, known as paper serialisation, aimed at curbing examination malpractice. The system, which mirrors practices already adopted by a national examining body, was used in key subjects such as Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.
“Unfortunately, this intervention led to some unforeseen technical glitches,” the Council noted.
As a result, WAEC has suspended access to the results portal and assured stakeholders that a thorough correction process is underway.

“In line with our commitment to fairness and professionalism, we are urgently working to resolve the issues. We deeply apologise to affected candidates and appreciate the public’s understanding as we rectify the situation within 24 hours,” the statement added.
Candidates who have previously accessed their results are advised to recheck after the update.
WAEC reaffirmed its dedication to excellence, fairness, and transparency in its examination and result management processes.
“Thank you for your continued trust and confidence in our services,” it concluded.
