Obi Has Better Shot at Beating Tinubu in 2027 Than Atiku – El-Rufai’s Son

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, believes Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, stands a stronger chance of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections than former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Bashir argued that Obi’s chances would significantly improve if he selects a strong vice-presidential running mate from the North. He emphasized Obi’s widespread appeal, especially among the youth and at the grassroots level, as a major political advantage.
“Atiku remains a significant political force and believes his time may finally have come,” Bashir wrote. “While 2019 was considered his best opportunity, perhaps this is a case of the moment aligning with the man. Still, Obi’s massive support base and cult-like following present a serious challenge. His popularity among the younger generation is a major strength. If he runs with a formidable Northern candidate, he would defeat Pablo [Tinubu] before our dear national mother, Aunty Remi, finishes her breakfast by noon.”
Bashir’s comments come months after his father joined other opposition figures in forming a political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The alliance, unveiled on March 20 in Abuja, aims to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
