2027: More governors set to join APC – Yilwatda

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has predicted that more state governors will dump their parties for the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 general election in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Yilwatda stated this on Tuesday at the 12th Expanded Stakeholders’ Meeting of the APC in Bayelsa State, where the party officially adopted Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate for 2027.
Speaking through the Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu, Yilwatda said Tinubu’s track record in governance is attracting governors, senators, and other opposition figures to the APC.
“More governors and lawmakers are on their way to our party because of the calibre, integrity, and achievements of the president. Our doors remain open to welcome all who want to join us in moving Nigeria forward,” he said.
He pointed to the recent defections of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno from the PDP to the APC, describing their switch as evidence of Tinubu’s growing political influence.
Yilwatda also called on APC members in Bayelsa to remain united and ensure a landslide victory for the party in 2027.
“Other parties may make noise, but when you have a lion, it does not listen to barking dogs—it stays focused on its mission. That is exactly what President Tinubu is doing: confronting challenges with the courage others lacked,” he added.

According to him, the South-South has demonstrated “political maturity” by aligning with the APC, as governors in the region continue to rally behind Tinubu’s vision.
“From the South-South to the South-East, leaders are making pragmatic choices, leaving their old parties to back the president because they recognise his resolve to take Nigeria to greater heights,” Yilwatda said.
