2027: Lamido Endorses Jonathan as PDP’s Strongest Presidential Option

Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has declared former President Goodluck Jonathan as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) most formidable candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking on Channels Television’ Politics Today on Friday, Lamido urged the party to actively court Jonathan back into its ranks, describing him as “the best bet” for victory.

“I think for the PDP now, they should try to woo him. To me, he is their best bet. Whoever the PDP presents, Nigerians will support him,” Lamido stated.

The PDP stalwart praised Jonathan as a seasoned leader with a deep understanding of governance and strong collaborative skills. He argued that no current southern PDP member matches the former president’s political experience and stature.

“He is competent, highly qualified, and very welcome. With all due respect to every member, I don’t see a better alternative to Jonathan in the PDP if the presidency is zoned to the South,” Lamido said. “Who else in the party can rival him in terms of experience, openness, willingness to listen, and ability to foster partnerships?”

His endorsement comes amid growing speculation about Jonathan’s possible return to the PDP to contest in 2027.

Jonathan, who has kept a low political profile since his 2015 election defeat, has yet to publicly declare any intentions. However, ongoing quiet negotiations and lobbying within PDP circles continue to fuel speculation about his comeback, making him one of the most closely watched political figures ahead of the polls.
