2027: Group calls on APC to present Ambode as Lagos governorship candidate

The Ambode Comeback Crusaders has urged the All Progressives Congress to nominate former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, as its flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election.
In an open letter dated September 28 and addressed to the APC National Chairman and the Lagos State Chairman, the group’s convener, Abiodun Fashola, described Ambode as a proven administrator whose tenure from 2015 to 2019 showcased remarkable achievements in infrastructure, public transport, and healthcare.
The group noted that Ambode’s financial expertise boosted Lagos’s status as a major economic hub, while his inclusive leadership style marked him as “a leader who engages both stakeholders and the public.”
“As the party considers candidates for the next election, we urge you to reflect on the far-reaching impact of Ambode’s return. His track record and vision align strongly with the APC’s agenda for growth and development,” the letter stated.
According to the group, a second term for Ambode would “usher Lagos into a fresh phase of prosperity and innovation” while reinforcing the APC’s reputation as a progressive party.
The letter was also copied to President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and other stakeholders.
Ambode, a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, succeeded Babatunde Fashola as governor in 2015 but was denied a second term in 2019 after losing the APC primary to Sanwo-Olu.
