A statue of former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has been destroyed by irate youths in Obi Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

The incident occurred when angry youths protested against the tenure of local government chairmen on Tuesday, reigniting the feud between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Wike.

The two leaders have been at odds since Fubara succeeded Wike as governor, with tensions temporarily subsiding until the local government chairmen’s tenure dispute revived the conflict.

While Fubara directed the chairmen, backed by Wike, to vacate the office due to tenure expiration, they refused, citing a six-month tenure extension granted by the pro-Wike faction of the Rivers House of Assembly.

In a statewide broadcast on Tuesday, Fubara directed all the 23 LG chairmen to hand over to the Heads of Administration in their respective councils.

In response to Fubara’s statewide broadcast youths across the state, including Obi Akpor, where Wike once served as Chairman, protested and destroyed the statue, chanting “No more Wike” while others joined hands to scatter the statue.

One of the protesters, in a viral video, was seen slamming the hat that fell off on the floor.
